On Tuesday, April 20, 2013, E! News published an article titled, "Bethenny
Frankel's Divorce Quietly on Track for Trial." According to the
article, Bethenny Frankel and her soon-to-be-ex-husband Jason Hoppy could
be headed for trial to come to a decision on their ongoing divorce case.
The couple apparently tried to keep this possibility quiet by refilling
their case as Anonymous vs. Anonymous, E! News learned.
According to E! News, both Frankel and Hoppy had their names expunged from
the New York Supreme Court System, which would have required a judge to
agree on their motion to refile their petition under pseudonyms.
New York divorce lawyer Bettina Hindin, who is not involved in this case
told E! News, "This is very unusual." She also told E! News,
"The law is clear – simply being a celebrity is not enough
to get an anonymous caption in New York. We have represented titans of
industry, hedge fund billionaires, politicians, celebrities and socialites
– people with much more notoriety than Bethenny Frankel and more
money than they could spend in two lifetimes of hedonistic indulgences
– and those people did not warrant 'Anonymous' captions."
Hindin also said that the court would only grant such a request in rare
cases, usually taking into consideration the health and welfare of the
parties involved that merit protection ahead of their privacy.
According to public records, the couple's next court date is slated
for June 20th and an October 31st date is also scheduled to inform the
court whether the case is ready for trial.
